AWJ Kapes was born from a feeling. That moment I slipped on my very first kimono and something shifted. I felt bold. Powerful. Free. I called it my cape not just because of how it looked, but because of how it made me feel. Women noticed. They asked about it. They felt it too.

This collection is a return to roots. Remembering where we come from and honoring the ground that holds us. Just like in Afrodance, every move begins from the earth. The strength, rhythm, and flow are born from our connection to the ground beneath our feet. These capes are a reminder: root down before you rise up.

The earth also teaches us cycles of rest, reset and renewal. It holds space for endings that become beginnings and for stillness that fuels motion. Like the earth, we are always in cycles of renewal. These Kapes are a reminder that every ending is the soil for a new beginning.

And after 5 years of AWJ, this message feels especially true. It is time to honor the rhythm of rest and to welcome new beginnings. For myself, for AWJ, and for the community we continue to grow. With every wear, these Kapes carry that same reminder: your power lies not only in rising, but in grounding.
